& Elisha (Flautist)

accompanied by:  Rosemary Barnes

We are thrilled to have Joanna (Soprano) back in Kerikeri! She is rapidly carving out a career in Europe, and her return to sing to her many fans here is eagerly awaited.

Programme includes:

  • Duet Joanna/Daniel - la ci darem la mano - Don Giovanni
  • Duet Joanna/Jordan - All I ask of You - Phantom of the Opera

Plus much much more!

In 2010, Joanna was the recipient of a grant from the Foundation of the Bay of Islands Arts Festival’s Patron, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, and was chosen to attend the prestigious Solti/Te Kanawa Accademia di Bel Canto in Italy.  Joanna will be wearing a gown gifted to her by Kiri Te Kanawa.

After her initial study with Kerikeri’s Carol Maher and at Auckland University, Joanna completed a Masters in Music at UCLA, California. She then appeared as Najade in Seattle Opera’s Young Artist Production of Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos and in an Offenbach review with Opéra Français de New York.

Now living in the UK, she performed in Diva Opera’s 2011 tour of Europe, before touring with The Opera Group’s award-winning production of Kurt Weill’s Street Scene in association with The Young Vic and the BBC Concert Orchestra.

Joanna has also performed the roles of Susanna in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, Nannetta in Verdi's Falstaff, Monica in Menotti's The Medium, Belinda in Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas, Polly in Weill and Brecht’s Threepenny Opera, Julie Jordon in Rodger’s and Hammerstein’s Carousel, and Le Rossignol in Ravel’s L’Enfant et les Sortileges.

Her solo concert appearances include Handel’s Messiah, Fauré’s Requiem and Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater.

In 2009 she was a finalist in the McDonald’s Aria Competition at the Sydney Opera House and won The Otago Daily Times Aria Competition.

Please Note:  There will be an opportunity to meet with Joanna and her guests following the concert in the Theatre Bar.   A light supper will also be served.
