With creation of The Centre at Kerikeri, New Zealand’s northernmost territory at last has an indoor venue capable of accommodating major public and private assemblies, and of showcasing regional arts, crafts, culture, commerce, production and recreation.
Equally, The Centre will bring the world to the Far North, in the sense of providing facilities of a standard to attract performing arts, exhibitors and others from far afield. For promoters of national and international acts, The Centre completes a chain of modern entertainment venues that begins in Invercargill.
The Centre also provides a link in another important chain – that of modern conference and convention venues equipped for an increasingly sophisticated market and located in desirable destinations.
Kerikeri sits on the westernmost reaches of New Zealand’s most popular marine playground, the Bay of Islands. It occupies a pivotal point on Northland’s Twin Coast Discovery Highway system and is home of the district’s busiest airport. Thus The Centre is perfectly located to serve residents and visitors alike.
Key facilities within the venue are:
The Centre has a small commercial-grade kitchen adjacent to the Events Hall. This space is suitable for serving catered meals and for preparing and serving light meals and snacks or meals of limited numbers.
In addition, The Centre offers its exclusive Eat while you Meet boxed lunch for meetings and conference clients.
Details of all meal options are available on application.
The Theatre Bar is open for all performances in the main auditorium and by arrangement for functions. It stocks a comprehensive range of beers, wines and spirits which can be supplemented for special occasions by arrangement.
The Far North District, the upper half of the Northland region, has a resident population estimated at 57,000. In addition, the district attracts as many as 130,000 visitors a month in seasonal peaks (see graphs next page).
The Centre is exploring initiatives designed to capture audience both from resident and visitor populations for performing arts and other public events. A dedicated survey of likely audience behaviour and spend provides some useful indicators and this information can be made available to users of the venue on application.
Terms of hireage for The Centre’s various facilities and a current Tariff Schedule are contained in the following documents.
